Building the Cob Pizza Oven

The cob pizza oven after one year of firings

In the summer of 2012 we built our first cob structure - a cob pizza oven finished in a simple lime plaster. It continues to be used frequently and is the centre piece of many summer gatherings at our home. The original blog of its step-by-step construction was hosted by the West Boulevard Veterinary Clinic and can be found here.

More than a year after its build it continues to perform beautifully. There is minor cracking of the finishing coat of plaster but it is otherwise holding strong.

Our pizza oven was built in part based on the wealth of knowledge available in:

  1. Build Your Own Earth Oven. Kiko Denzer 2007
  2. Using Natural Finishes. Adam Weismann and Katy Bryce 2010
